At the start of the year, I put together a mini-course aimed at aspiring translators.
I had been having regular virtual chats with new translators who were keen to pick my brains, but I always came out of the chats a bit frustrated, feeling like there was so much more I could have told them.
👩🏻🏫 So I put my ex-teacher skills to good use and created a workshop with a proper structure, a logical order, resources and space for feedback, questions and reflection, based on the following learning objectives:
● Understand what a career in freelance translation involves
● Form a plan to get started with your translation career
● Discuss your ideas & questions with an experienced translator
● Access resources & links to deepen your research
My workshop is called “Flying Start”, and I have now decided to offer it on a free of charge, 1-to-1 basis once a month, as a way of giving back to the translation community.
The workshop is 2 hours long and is run on the first Thursday of each month (exact time to be agreed), via Zoom. It is in English and will be most relevant to UK-based translators.
If you are a career changer or language/translation student looking for answers on how to get started as a freelance translator, feel free to get in touch (ideally through LinkedIn) with a little note explaining why you would like to take part 🤩
